Meal Prepping… On a Budget!

There really is no excuse to not be able to make healthy choices while at the grocery store despite your budget. Too many times I have heard people say that eating healthy is super expensive… Just like I have heard people say that joining a gym, a CrossFit, or seeking out some sort of fitness training is too expensive or they do not have enough time. You really cannot put a price tag on your own health and to not schedule a time each day to strengthen your own body and mind. It is way too important! To live healthy means to live in a way that through your food choices as well as your fitness choices you are actually defending off potential disease.

I currently spend a total of $35-$40/week on groceries for my daughter and I… AND that is in Southern California, no less. Eating healthy IS possible on a budget.

Wanna know my trick?

The 99 Cent store… Yep! I already know what you’re thinking, but hear me out. They have a full fresh produce section, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, nut butter, eggs, milk, meat, containers to prep with, etc. Anything I am not able to get there I go to Trader Joe’s for.

Now, for my other trick… Y’all ready?

I meal prep over the weekend, usually on Sunday, for the entire week and it usually takes me about an hour or so. This does two things: Saves SO much time during the week and saves SO much money throughout the week because all your meals have already been prepped! You don’t have to worry about what you’re going to eat or portion size or getting caught without and then having to spend extra by eating out. This also helps you stay on track with clean eating and allows you to also plan ahead when you might allow for yourself some “treat meals”. My daughter and I have a tradition of eating VG’s donuts on Sunday morning and milk and cookies Sunday night. I like wine on Saturday evenings lol… Trader Joe’s has a different selection each week for just $4. Having treats planned out in advance gives you something to look forward to, but also takes away the urge to indulge more frequently which typically happens when you’re nutritionally unorganized.

Eating healthy really can be very simple AND possible.
