This week on the <<>> BLOG I am sharing a coaching tutorial I did way back when on the candlestick! The candlestick is a super fun drill to help develop full body mobility, strength, balance, timing, coordination, body awareness, and much more! The candlestick is also an excellent intro to the foundation of rolling; forward rolls, backward rolls, handstand forward rolls, back extension rolls, dive rolls, etc.

Coaching tips:

  • Begin with your feet together
  • Position your arms straight up, hugging your ears, while in a standing position
  • Keep your feet flat to the floor as you squat your hips toward your heels
  • Keep your knees together
  • In the bottom of your squat bring your hips to the floor
  • Tuck your chin in toward your chest
  • Keep your body in a tight tuck as you roll to your upper back
  • Extend your legs straight up
  • Open your hips
  • Point your toes
  • Tuck your knees back into your chest
  • Roll back into the bottom of your knee together squat
  • Push up through the middle of your foot to stand
