Movement of the week /// Mastering the ring hold
Happy Monday, Fit Fam!
It’s time to add a little sparkle to your training session with one of my favorite static holds: the ring support hold in hollow.
Trust me, this position is a game-changer and will have you building superhero strength and stability throughout your entire body with a main focus on your trunk/core and shoulders.
So, why should you care about the ring support hold? Well, it’s not just about looking cool (although that’s a pretty sweet bonus).
This move is fantastic for your warm-ups, skill-building, strength training, conditioning, accessory work, and even as a killer finisher.
The amount of absolute strength you develop through working on static holds and positions is out of this world.
Let’s Break It Down: The Ring Support Hold in Hollow
Start with 15-20 seconds at a time for 3-5 sets and build from there.
You’ll be amazed at how quickly you progress!
Coaching Tips:
1. Eyes on the Horizon: Keep your gaze forward, chest up, and body in a straight line while holding the hollow position.
2. Ring Placement: Set the rings shoulder-width apart and keep them parallel to each other.
3. Shoulder Magic: Actively press your shoulders down and away from your ears. Imagine you’re trying to grow an extra inch taller.
4. Straight Arm Strength: Keep your arms straight and strong. You’re holding yourself up like the legend you are!
5. Modification Station: Not quite ready for the full bodyweight in this static hold? No worries! Just lower the rings a bit closer to your hips and go with a floor-assisted variation by pressing the tops of your feet into the floor, as needed. You’ve got this!
