The Power of Consistency: Tiny Wins That Add Up

October 05, 2026•9 min read

Over the years, I’ve learned that transformation isn’t found in one perfect workout or one flawless week of eating.

It’s found in what you do day after day.

Intensity has its place, but consistency is what allows those efforts to add up over time.

So many people think they have to go all in to see results. They push hard for a week, maybe two, and then burn out when life gets busy.

I’ve seen it with clients, and I’ve felt it myself.

Intensity can be exciting, but going all in all the time isn’t sustainable. Consistency is what creates long-term change.

Even if you start with ten minutes of walking each day, those minutes add up over time.

Small, consistent actions can become greater strength, energy, confidence, and healthier habits.

That’s how you create a lifestyle you can actually maintain.

The Compound Effect of Daily Actions

Think of consistency as the compound interest of fitness.

Every small action you take builds on the one before it.

One workout might not change your life, but one hundred workouts spread over months can change your strength, fitness, and what your body is capable of.

One glass of water won’t transform your health, but consistently staying hydrated supports your body day after day.

The SHIFTS framework I created, Sleep, Hydration, Intake, Fitness, Thoughts, and Sunshine, is rooted in this idea.

Each daily shift can seem small in the moment.

But when those actions are stacked over weeks, months, and years, they can transform your health from the inside out.

I like to think of it as moving a pile of dirt.

Some days you’ll have a shovel. Other days, you’ll only have a spoon.

Either way, you’re still moving the dirt.

And that still counts as progress.

Client Success Stories Proving Consistency Works

I’ve seen incredible transformations in clients who embraced small, steady actions.

Take Sophie, for example.

After years of struggling with old injuries, she finally found her rhythm by committing to consistent, intentional movement that didn’t aggravate her back.

Over just a few months, she lost body fat, built lean muscle, and felt strong again.

The secret wasn’t doing the hardest workout of her life.

It was showing up consistently and trusting the process.

Then there’s Larry, who came to me at sixty in a fitness slump.

He wasn’t being challenged and had fallen into the trap of doing the same routine over and over.

By recommitting to a consistent schedule and adding variety to keep things interesting, he rebuilt strength and balance.

Fitness became part of his daily life again, not just something he did when it was convenient.

And Aaron, a father in his forties, had neglected his health for years.

He didn’t overhaul his entire life overnight.

Instead, he committed to daily activity, made smarter food choices, and tracked his progress.

Within months, his waistline shrank, his energy improved, and his blood work improved dramatically.

What made the difference?

Consistency.

Day after day, small decisions added up to big change.

How to Build Consistency Into a Busy Schedule

One of the biggest hurdles people face is time.

I hear it all the time:

“I don’t have enough hours in the day.”

I get it.

I’m a mom, a partner, a coach, and a business owner. My life is busy, too.

But here’s the truth:

You don’t find time for the things that matter. You make time for them.

Building consistency doesn’t require hours every day.

It requires intention.

Here are a few ways to weave healthy habits into a packed schedule:

  • Schedule it like an appointment. Put workouts, meal prep, or even walks on your calendar and protect that time.

  • Start small. Ten minutes of movement counts. Five minutes of stretching before bed counts. Don’t dismiss small actions because they feel insignificant. They add up.

  • Stack habits. Pair a new habit with something you already do. Drink a glass of water when you brew your morning coffee. Take a short walk after dropping off your kids. Add a few minutes of mobility to something already built into your routine.

  • Be flexible. If life interrupts your original plan, don’t automatically scrap the entire day. Ask yourself what you can do with the time and energy you have.

Consistency thrives when you focus on progress, not perfection.

Tools for Tracking Progress and Staying Accountable

One of the best ways to stay consistent is by tracking your actions.

When you can see evidence of your progress, it can help reinforce the behaviors you’re working to build.

I encourage my clients to log workouts, nutrition, and even how they’re feeling.

A simple journal, spreadsheet, calendar, or app can help you stay accountable.

The key isn’t just writing it down.

Look back at what you’ve done.

When you realize how many times you’ve shown up for yourself over the last month, three months, or year, you begin to see progress differently.

You stop judging yourself based only on what happened today.

You start seeing the bigger picture.

Accountability matters, too.

Share your goals with a friend, join a class, find a training partner, or work with a coach.

Having someone invested in your progress can help you continue showing up when motivation dips.

Celebrate the Tiny Wins

It’s easy to overlook small wins when you’re focused on a big goal.

But those moments matter.

Every time you choose water over soda, every time you walk instead of scroll, every time you complete your workout when you didn’t feel like it, every time you prioritize sleep, every time you make a choice that supports the person you want to become.

That is a win.

And those wins build momentum.

They remind you that you’re capable of change.

More importantly, they reinforce the identity you’re creating:

Someone who consistently shows up for their health.

So celebrate them.

Write them down.

Share them with someone.

Acknowledge that you followed through on something you said you would do.

Not every win needs to be a PR, a number on the scale, a dramatic before and after photo, or a major milestone.

Sometimes the win is simply:

I showed up today.

You Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Consistent

This may be one of the most important things to understand:

Consistency does not mean perfection.

You’re going to miss workouts.

You’re going to have meals that don’t align perfectly with your goals.

You’re going to travel, get sick, have stressful weeks, sleep poorly, deal with family responsibilities, and experience seasons when your routine looks completely different.

That doesn’t erase your progress.

Consistency is not about never getting off track.

It’s about learning how to come back.

One missed workout doesn’t become a missed month.

One meal doesn’t become a reason to abandon your nutrition goals.

One difficult week doesn’t mean you failed.

You simply take the next opportunity you have to make another choice that moves you forward.

Tiny Wins Become Big Wins

Consistency isn’t always glamorous.

It doesn’t always create an exciting before and after moment overnight.

And sometimes, while you’re in the middle of it, it can feel like nothing is happening at all.

But something is happening.

Every workout.

Every walk.

Every glass of water.

Every nourishing meal.

Every night you prioritize sleep.

Every time you redirect a negative thought.

Every time you get outside.

Every time you choose to begin again instead of giving up.

It all adds up.

Your strongest, healthiest, and happiest life isn’t built in one day.

It’s built through the choices you continue making day after day.

So keep moving the dirt.

Some days you’ll have a shovel.

Some days you’ll only have a spoon.

Just keep moving it.

Because one day, you’ll look back and realize:

Those tiny wins were the big wins all along.

Live STRONG. Live HEALTHY. Live HAPPY.
